Lessons Learned Implementing 17025
About this Article
This article by Dave
Abell was presented at the NCSL International 2004 Symposium and
published in the Proceedings.
Abstract
This paper explores the challenges encountered in implementing
some of the ideas expressed in a paper by the same author, Do
You Really Need a 17025 Accredited Calibration?, which was
presented at the 2003 conference. A project was started to provide
a cost effective, pragmatic solution for the 17025 calibration of
a complex piece of electronic test equipment. The NCSLI conference
theme for 2004, Metrology - the process of providing good
measurements, characterizes the experience of implementing
17205 in this project. The standard works very well and helped guide
efforts to develop better procedures. This ensuing paper explores
some of the things learned about software validation, the application
of measurement uncertainties, and documentation issues encountered
in developing and qualifying of procedures. These "lessons
learned" are presented to help customers better understand
what constitutes a 17025 calibration.
